Are you thirsty for our delicious cold brew coffee at home?
Try one of these three easy ways to make it right in your own home! Each require coarsely ground coffee, we use Costa Rica dark roast for the cold brew we serve in house, but you can try any of our roasted coffee! All cold brew must be left to brew for at least 12 hours, but leaving it for up to 24 hours will yield a bolder, richer taste!
Method 1: Mason Jar
Making cold brew in a mason jar is probably the most accessible to get the bold taste from home! All you need is our Costa Rica dark roast coffee (or try another blend) coarsely ground, a mason jar and 12-24 hours!
Step 1. Pick up your choice of coarsely ground coffee from the cafe (or grind it coarsely at home).
Step 2. Place your desired amount of coffee into your mason jar. You’ll want a 1:4 ratio of coffee to water to achieve the desired taste.
Step 3. Stir gently and leave it to steep for 12-24 hours.
Step 4. Once brewed, strain your coffee through cheesecloth or a few sheets of paper towel and repeat until no grounds are left in your mixture.
Step 5. Dilute your cold brew concentrate with water, and serve over ice with desired milk and sugar.
Store the rest of your cold brew in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Method 2: French Press
What could be even easier than making cold brew in a mason jar? Well, if you have a french press, then this method is for you! All you need is your french press, our Costa Rica dark roast coffee (or try another blend) coarsely ground, and 12-24 hours!
Step 1. Pick up your choice of coarsely ground coffee from the cafe (or grind it coarsely at home).
Step 2. Place your desired amount of coffee into your french press. You’ll want a 1:4 ratio of coffee to water to achieve the desired taste.
Step 3. Do not press the plunger down, leave the mixture at room temperature for at least 12 hours, but up to 24.
Step 4. After brewing, press the plunger down to filter your coffee.
Step 5. Serve at a 1:2 ratio of coffee to water and add milk and sugar as desired.
Store the rest of your cold brew in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Method 3: The Way We Make It In House!
In the cafe, we make large batches of cold brew concentrate to serve to our customers using our Costa Rican dark roast coffee! But, if you want a large amount of cold brew, you can make it the way we do too!
Or, if you have a mesh bag to brew with, just half the recipe for a smaller yield!
Step 1. Grind 5 pounds of coffee, coarse, and place in a mesh bag in a large vessel (we use a large bucket with a spout).
Step 2. Fill with 14 quarts (approx. 13.25 litres) of water and tie up bag.
Step 3. Leave at room temperature to brew 12-24 hours (or just overnight).
Step 4. Serve diluted with water, since it is a concentrate, and add desired dairy/ sugar!
Store the rest of your cold brew in the fridge for up to two weeks.
We hope that you’ll be inspired to try making your own cold brew at home with one of these three methods! These recipes are extremely customizable, as you can add more water if you want a weaker brew, and less water if you like a strong iced coffee!
